Newcastle's former Civic Railway Station has been transformed into a vibrant public space, as part of NSW Government's Revitalising Newcastle program.

Renamed 'Museum Park', the Civic precinct upgrades include renovations to the existing station building, greater pedestrian access between the city and the waterfront, as well as the creation of paved and green spaces in the surrounding parks. Museum Park opened in 2019, and is now a much-loved space to relax, connect, play and learn in the heart of the city.
A re-imagined community space
Museum Park is a key deliverable of Government’s $650+ million commitment to the revitalisation of Newcastle, creating yet another community space along the former rail corridor.
As well as bringing people into the city centre, it is designed to connect the CBD and waterfront, provide versatile public space and recognise the site's history.

It is a celebration of community and stakeholder collaboration, with a considered design guided by heritage experts and world-class architects, along with input from the Newcastle community and Council.
New pedestrian links have been created, resulting in an unbroken connection from the Civic precinct, through to the waterfront and all that Honeysuckle has to offer. Museum Park provides an inviting thoroughfare to Newcastle Museum and public transport, as well as enhanced access and a place to relax for students of the University of Newcastle Honeysuckle campus.
Museum Park scavenger hunt
Explore Museum Park and The Station on a self-guided scavenger hunt. The Newy with Kids hunts encourage exploration and play, revealing hidden gems about the unique history of the former railway stations by uncovering clues and solving mystery phrases.
