Project highlights
Leagues Club Park, Gosford
A stand-out exemplar of inspirational design, complete with an innovative tidal terrace, interactive Aboriginal design elements, inclusive play equipment, accessible pathways, and quality green space.
In 2021, Leagues Club Park was recognised with several prestigious accolades including an Urban Development Institute of Australia Award for Excellence alongside ADW Johnson and Turf Design.
It was also awarded the Judges Choice and Aboriginal Heritage winner at the National Trust Heritage Awards; was a commended finalist at the Place Leaders Asia Pacific Awards; and a NSW Premier's Award finalist.
The Station, Newcastle
A significant component of the award winning Revitalising Newcastle program at the former city railway precinct, transformed by HCCDC into a vibrant and much-loved community hub.
The revitalised Station offers an open-air landscaped piazza and ground floor activation spaces, now enjoyed by the community for recreation, shopping and pop-up events.
HCCDC's significant heritage restoration works, landscaping and activation initiatives have been recognised with top awards including a NSW 'Great Place' Award for Planning Excellence by the Planning Institute of Australia, and a Newcastle Award for Heritage by the Australian Institute of Architects.
Site remediation, Newcastle
From the early 2000s until 2023, HCCDC worked to rehabilitate two former BHP steelworks sites around the Port of Newcastle, delivering the most significant remediation works in the city's history.
The rehabilitation works have opened the potential for re-use of the land, which includes a 152-hectare former steelworks at Mayfield, and associated 65-hectare waste emplacement facility at Kooragang Island.
Our team developed the remediation methods key to the project, and was recognised with a NSW Premier's Award in 2016 for Protecting the Environment.
Revitalising Newcastle
The Revitalising Newcastle program is a $650 million investment focused on activating the city to attract people, jobs and tourism.
Coordinated by HCCDC, the Revitalising Newcastle Program was named the Winner of the NSW Premier's Award 2019, for Building a Strong Economy.
HCCDC is working in partnership with Transport for NSW and key stakeholders including the community, local residents, industry and local businesses to shape the revitalisation of the city centre.
